Can you donate?
- Age 18–60, weight 45 kg or more
- Haemoglobin 12.5 g/dL or above — checked free at the desk
- Slept at least 6 hours last night
- Had a light meal — not fatty or oily, and never on an empty stomach
- No alcohol in the last 24 hours
- 3 months since your last donation
- Carry photo ID
Come back another day if you have a cold, cough, sore throat or fever; have taken antibiotics in the last 3 days; or have had a dental extraction or root canal in the last 6 months. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, and anyone up to 12 months after giving birth, should not donate.
The donation itself takes 10–12 minutes, plus a 10–15 minute rest afterwards with juice. Criteria are the B.Y.L. Nair Ch. Hospital Blood Centre's own.
